The Economist makes the case for mandatory mask wearing
The Economist, one of the world's most influential news publications, makes a strong case for mandatory face masks to help fight the spread of Covid-19 in a leader column this week.
The article highlights the fact that the UK is lagging behind the rest of the world in recommending face masks despite the rapid easing of lockdown restrictions.
"Since May 11th Parisians have been required to wear masks on public transport or face a penalty of €135 ($150), so it is rare to see anybody on the Métro without one. On London’s Tube, by contrast, where the government merely advises people to wear one, only around a third of people are doing so."
